The second episode of ComixRadio is available. ComixRadio is ideally viewed on a video iPod, but it's certainly not necessary. You can download a movie file to be viewed on your iPod or iTunes, or you can stream the episode on this blog using YouTube technology.

We're pleased to announce that the second episode of ComixRadio will be online shortly. It will be 23 minutes long and contains a lot of drawings.

In the meantime here's an article by Alice Rawsthorn which describes what our vision for ComixRadio is, essentially.

Alongside the old-fashioned book, there will soon be a new contender as a visual icon of the future: the ambient imagery that will accompany the music on our video iPods. You can already watch pop videos on an iPod, and soon you will be able to download other types of visual material on to it too. Some of it will be informative, such as lyrics and biographies of the musicians. The most exciting will be the new sequences of images, mostly digital animations, created to reflect the spirit of the music and to enhance our experience of listening to it.

To view ComixRadio you'll need to use Quicktime and/or the most recent version of iTunes. Download the podcast, and begin viewing either on your computer or on an iPod. Along with the music mix there will be accompanying visuals you can follow along with.

Culture wants to be freemixed

As we are not making money from this project (i.e. we're doing it because we love it) we've chosen to license it under Creative Commons (CC).

This means that we invite any listeners/readers to download the images or movie and remix them into their own movie podcast (using a similar CC liscense). Culture apparently, wants to be freemixed.

About ComixRadio

ComixRadio is a unique approach to both comics and radio. Rather than interrupt our music with pointless banter, we let the mediums of comics, animation & typography speak for us visually, while letting the music play on, without interruption.

This mixture of mediums is possible using the technique of podcasting. Listeners can download a podcast, load it into iTunes and upload it to their iPod, which is our preferred destination (though it will work just fine on your computer).

As Alice Rawsthorn said in a recent Guardian article, "the most exciting will be the new sequences of images, mostly digital animations, created to reflect the spirit of the music and to enhance our experience of listening to (the iPod)."

The origin of ComixRadio

ComixRadio was initially conceived by Colin White and Constantin Demner while they studied in London England.

Colin streamed his iTunes to a few classmates while they worked late into the night on thesis's. One night Colin and Constantin hosted and live-streamed a six hour radio mix to a few dozen listeners in London & around the world. That was the very first episode of ComixRadio, crude and long as it was. Although we didn't have any accompanying comics to our music, some of our über-talented classmates decided to jam along and send us fan comics through the night. Here's a nice sample.
